Reflection 4 Berkely
Just when you think Sophie's world cant get any weirder, something even more crazy happens. It appears that Hildes father has total control in her world because he has the ability to make dogs talk, put messages inside fruit and possibly control the weather. While all this is happening, Alberto seems to be cramming as many philosophers into Sophie's lessons as possible, yet the one that really seems to be the most important is Berkeley Alberto keeps telling her that Berkeley is the key, and when I looked into his philosophy, I found out why. We found that Berkeley's main idea in his philosophy is that we do not know whats going on when we are not there. I'm not in school, so does school exist? Berkeley thought that the only force powerful enough to hold reality together was God, and all of us are just living in our sensory bubbles in Gods reality. Once Sophie realized this a terrible storm came down and she ran home only to be caught in some sort of storm where her mom met here. At this point I have to admit to reading for a few more pages and learning that the story switches to Hilde's perspective where she apparently gets a book about Sophie. From knowing this evidence, and knowing that Hilde's father is all powerful in Sophie universe, I think I can assume that Sophie's World is actually just a book within a book that has been written by Hildes father. This explains his overpowering influence in Sophie's World, and the reason for the odd happy birthday messages, and possibly the book title. I don't know if this is true, but it makes sense to me right now

Angels and Demons (Connection 3)
As Sophies world has stated, the argument between religion and science has existed for thousands of years. When the Dark ages came around, it appeared that religion had won out, yet the renaissance changed all of that. Men like Copernicus and Kepler and Galileo fought a thousand years of religion with their new found discoveries. Of course, when going into a fight, its better to have the church on your side rather than against it, but they had no choice. Or did they?
Obviously science and religion have been enemies for years. Logic vs Faith. But I love watching movies like Angels and Demons. Although that movie disappointingly turned out out o be an action movie based on about 3 percent fact, it had some good points. Part of the plot was that there were a group of scientist trying to prove God. Crazy, right? The movie combined the cosmological and ontological theories to say that God made the big bang, thus creating everything after.
I am a fan of thoughts like this because it promotes peace between the two communities rather than fighting. When before they would destroy each other they can help to prove each other. It would be very beneficial for each side

Im confused Reflection 3
Well. First off I have to say that I love things that mess with my head. That being said, Sophies World is getting a little to weird for me. Alberto Knox went from lovable friend from afar to old guy who likes to dress up and never tell Sophie whats going on. Sophie's dad seems non-existent, Sophie seems a little nuts and Hilde appears to exist in some other universe. From piecing all this together I can only come to one conclusion. Hildes world is just an alternate version to Sophie's, where Hilde is Sophie. Alberto Knox keeps calling Sophie Hilde, not by accident. Alberto Knox's name is oddly similar to Albert Knod, suggesting that if Sophie is Hilde, then Alberto is Sophies dad in the other universe. This would make sense because Sophie is very confused and distressed about her father and Sophies mother thought Sophie should invite Alberto to her birthday party, suggesting that he could be her dad.(Maybe Sophie's mother is withholding some info.) There is also the issue of the magic mirror, because Sophie keeps seeing a reflection winking at her. I think that the mirror is a portal between the two worlds. This explains several things like the postcards that keep appearing near the mirror. It also explains the reflection that keeps winking at her; Hilde must be able to see through the portal. Whether this is all just a dream or a reality or something, it is certain that Alberto knows exactly whats going on and is going to tell her whats happening next

Sorry...(Connection 1)
Anyone who has ever tried to give me something as a gift probably hates me, because I am extraordinarily hard to shop for. Whenever Christmas or my birthday rolls around and my mom asks what I want I just tend to give her the old "I Dunno." This is because when i think about it, there is alot of stuff I really do not need. This also makes me a nightmare to shop with because whenever I go to large stores or malls, all that is going through my head is "Who needs all this stuff?" I am sure Socrates and all the cynics and I would have totally understood each other in this respect. If there is something I really need then I will go out and buy it for myself (Something that I need could be something that I use everyday, as opposed to just random stuff that I will not use) which leaves no room for anyone else. The Cynics believed the same thing: materials are just materials.
When I do receive random stuff that gets no use I feel bad because it is really a waste of money but I know that I truthfully never wanted it. I feel that the less stuff you have the better. When everything in your life gets to cluttered then it can clutter your head and you get in a bad place, physically and mentally. If you can just keep everything simple then it will keep you simple. So for all you gift givers: Sorry... but the best gift is nothing

Dont Worry, Be Happy (Reflection 1)
One of the most important questions asked by the newest set of interduced philosophers (The Stoics, Cynics, Epicureans and Neoplatonists) dates back to Democritus: What should we do about our life? The problem is that life is extremely long, and many things happen. To sum it up, the stoics believe we have no choice, so dont worry because we wont change anything when it comes to hard choices. The cynics believe that materials are just things you don't need, the neoplatists believe that we need to find our own soul to be happy, and the Epicureans beleive that we just need to be happy.
My personal favorite is the Epicureans, because of their idea that "Death does not concern us, because as long as we exist, death is not here and when it does come we are already dead." This statement is so simple yet complex it feels like cheating logic. It made me realize that it is actually silly to fear death, or anything for that matter. Like the stoics they believed that things happen, but unlike them they believed that we have control over them, so you might as well do what makes you happy. This doesn't mean you should go out and have some "orgies" as some text suggested, but you should be happy. The key, like Hippocrates thought, is moderation. Live your life in moderation, without worrying and you will be a happy person. All other schools of thought suggested extremes (extreme lack of control, use of materials, or soul) yet Epicureous suggested doing everything right.
